Purpose:

• This is an introductory class for basic water skills, such as submerging the mouth, nose, and eyes, and entry level front and back floats. Focus will be on developing positive attitudes and safe practices in and around the water. Every skills is completed with support from the instructor.

Prerequisites:

• No skill prerequisites
• Participants usually start at about 6 years of age

Purpose:

• Child should have completed LTS 1. Participants learn to glide and float without support, develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back, and work on breath control.

Prerequisites:

• Successful demonstration of the Learn-to-Swim Level 1 exit skills assessment
• Children should be confident in and around water. Able to put face in without hesitation.

Purpose:

• Child should have completed LTS 2. Students will start working on stroke techniques. Strong focuses include the front crawl, elementary backstroke, scissors kick, and starting dolphin kick.

Prerequisites:

• Successful demonstration of the Learn-to-Swim Level 2 exit skills assessment

(Ages 6-35 months) Water exploration. Swim readiness skills: blowing bubbles, front and back floats, arm and leg actions, basic aquatic safety. Parent works 1 on 1 with child under leadership of instructor.

(Ages 18-35 months) Becoming comfortable in the water. Children stay at this level until they turn 3 years old. Parent works 1 on 1 with child under leadership of instructor.

Purpose:

• This level introduces basic aquatic skills which serves as a base toward positive attitudes and safe practices around the water. All skills are performed with instructor assistance.

Prerequisites:

• No skill prerequisites
• Children should be 3 years old or older

Purpose:

• This level will focus on exploring floating with and without assistance, and work on simultaneous and alternating arm and leg movements on the front and back in preparation to begin performing swim strokes.
• Increase knowledge of water safety topics introduced in Preschool Aquatics Level 1

Prerequisites:

• Successful demonstration of the Preschool Aquatics Level 1 exit skills assessment

Purpose:

• The skills in this level are performed independently/with slight help. Children will work to improve their coordination and control of arm and leg movements. Skills practice involves more repetitions, and a longer distance traveled.
• Participants are more horizontal than vertical in water and will be comfortable in chest deep water

Prerequisites:

• Successful demonstration of the Preschool Aquatics Level 2 exit skills assessment

These lessons are designed for 5th-8th graders who want to learn to swim or improve their existing skills.
